it's official. i'm making a new year's resolution: 2012 will be the year of the quilt.
it feels quite ambitious to name a year after something, especially given that my sewing machine and i currently reside in different countries. also, i hate making resolutions.
but i've had my eye on this 'modified bento box quilt' for a while (as well as a number of others on my pinterest sewing board), and today, i dragged hubs to the fabric store and committed to 10 prints and 5 solids, and found myself a fantastic new fabric store!
greens + yellows
my solids. two pinks, for a sweet little lady who loves pink! (jp and katy, as always, thank you for letting me dote on your babies.)
oranges + yellows
and mostly, pink. this little girl (at least, last i asked it was her most consistent answer) loves pink. and i even managed to find tulip print fabric here in india, which i thought perfectly fitting for someone who can name both india and the netherlands as places her family comes from!
the stack all together. my camera is wonky- the far right fabric is a deep green.
i can't wait to see how this turns out, even though it makes me nervous to take on such a large project (especially after saying over and over again that i'd leave quilting to the pros!) i'm second guessing my fabric choices, wondering if the balance of big prints + small prints + solids i aimed for missed the mark. buyer's remorse? amateur quilter's rookie mistake?
eh. if i finish it and it sucks, scratch this post and i'll keep it for myself, as a reminder as to why i shouldn't quilt. at any rate, i found some beautiful fabrics and i'm glad husband was with me, to keep me from completely raiding the shelves.
i'm nervous, and excited. mostly, i just can't wait to get started. april come, she will!

also, with my new discovery of this fabric store, i'm tempted to open an online store so that you all can benefit, too. if i hadn't just pulled my hair out at the post office trying to mail someone some cookies ('eatables not allowed, madam.'), i might seriously consider it.
