we were informed that the students at our host institution are on holiday yesterday (wednesday) through the weekend because of ganesh chathurthi/ vinayagar chathurthi. aka, ganesh's birthday. we found this little diya and flower offering outside our neighbor's door this morning and i couldn't help but snap a photo.
we've yet to see any super exciting processions or really, any sort of indication at all that it's a festival around here, which is odd given what i've read about this holiday. we'll have to find and ask a local to be sure we don't miss 'the submerging of a giant ganesh statue in a body of water' part of this holiday.
{apparently, the flower and idol markets are packed.}
